About the Event

American Fiction Trailer

American Fiction (15) | Dir. Cord Jefferson | 2023 | USA | IMDb 7.5 | 117 mins

A novelist who is fed up with the establishment profiting from Black entertainment uses a pen name to write a book that propels him into the heart of the hypocrisy and madness he claims to disdain.

An intelligent and very funny take on many topical sensitivities relating to race, class and cultural life. A frustrated black academic and highbrow novelist vents his frustration with the American literary world pandering to black stereotypes by writing a satirical work under a pseudonym. However, the joke soon begins to take on a life of its own. Jefferson’s directorial debut won numerous awards and received five Oscar nominations.

Entry is free for HFS members.
